CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MAY 31, 2021
HOW MUCH OF THE HISTORY OF MEMORIAL DAY DO YOU KNOW?
ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS DECORATION DAY, IT ORIGINATED IN THE YEARS FOLLOWING THE CIVIL WAR, NOT BECOMING AN OFFICIAL HOLIDAY UNTIL 1971.
THE CIVIL WAR CLAIMED MORE LIVES THAN ANY CONFLICT IN AMERICAN HISTORY AND LEAD TO THE CREATION OF THE COUNTRY’S FIRST NATIONAL CEMETERIES, OF WHICH ARLINGTON IS THE MOST FAMOUS.
EACH MEMORIAL DAY, A NATIONAL MOMENT OF REMEMBRANCE TAKES PLACE AT 3 PM LOCAL TIME.
REMEMBER THAT TODAY AND MORE. GIVE THANKS FOR THOSE WHO WERE WILLING TO LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES IN ORDER THAT THEIR POSTERITY MIGHT BE FREE FROM TYRANNY. EVEN MORE, GIVE THANKS TO THE ONE WHO CAME FROM HEAVEN TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE TO PAY FOR OUR SINS AND DELIVER US FROM JUDGMENT.
IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO LOST A SON, A HUSBAND, A WIFE, DAUGHTER OR OTHER RELATIVE WHILE SERVING THEIR COUNTRY, THANK THEM AND PRAY FOR THEM TODAY. THEY WILL APPRECIATE IT AND YOU WILL BE BLESSED FOR DOING SO. ENJOY THE DAY THEY MADE POSSIBLE FOR US. I’M CAL THOMAS.
