WE’VE ALL HEARD THE EXCUSES AND EXPLANATIONS. PERHAPS AT ONE TIME WE HAVE BEEN GUILTY OF USING SOME OF THEM.
THE BREAKUP OF THE MARRIAGE OF BILL AND MELINDA GATES IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE. THE BILLIONAIRES SAID THERE WAS NO GROWTH IN THE MARRIAGE.
GATES WAS ONCE QUOTED THAT ATTENDING CHURCH WAS NOT A PRODUCTIVE USE OF HIS TIME.
THE MAN WHO LEAD ME TO CHRIST WAS RICHARD HALVERSON. HE WENT FROM BEING A PASTOR AT MY CHURCH TO CHAPLAIN OF THE SENATE. HE ONCE TOLD ME THAT IN COUNSELING PEOPLE HE WOULD HEAR FROM THE MAN, “I DON’T LOVE HER ANYMORE,” OR THE SAME FROM THE WIFE.
HE WOULD ASK: “BUT ARE YOU WILLING TO LOVE?” LOVE IS MORE THAN A FEELING, THOUGH IT IS A WONDERFUL FEELING. LOVE IS A COMMITMENT TO ONE’S VOWS. LOVE IS PUTTING THE OTHER PERSON FIRST. IF GOD LOVED US CONDITIONALLY WE WOULD ALL BE DESTINED FOR HELL. FEELINGS COME AND GO. GOD’S LOVE IS FOREVER.
