CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 8, 2021
CONGRESS CAME BACK YESTERDAY AND THAT’S USUALLY BAD NEWS FOR JUST ABOUT EVERYONE
EXCEPT LIBERAL ACTIVISTS.
THERE ARE TWO BIG ITEMS ON THE DEMOCRATS’ AGENDA. ONE IS A SO-CALLED INFRASTRUCTURE BILL
THAT WILL COST OVER $1 TRILLION. HARD CORE LEFTISTS LIKE ALEXANDRIA OCASIO CORTEZ SAY THEIR
COALITION WON’T VOTE ON THE INFRASTRUCTURE MEASURE UNTIL CONGRESS APPROVES THEIR SOCIAL
SPENDING AGENDA OF MORE THAN $3 TRILLION. DOES ANYONE SAY “WE CAN’T AFFORD IT” ANYMORE?
CONGRESS THINKS OUR INITIALS ARE ATM, NOT USA.
SOME DEFENDERS OF THE SPENDING AND INCREASING DEBT SAY LOOK AT CHINA, WHICH IS ESTIMATED
TO BE SPENDING $6 TRILLION ON INFRASTRUCTURE. YES, BUT CHINA ISN’T IN DEBT, THANKS TO MANY
AMERICAN COMPANIES DOING BUSINESS THERE AND MANY PRODUCTS MADE THERE, SHIPPED HERE AND
BOUGHT BY US.
THE FOUNDERS AND SUCCEEDING GENERATIONS WOULD BE SHOCKED THAT GOVERNMENT HAS
BECOME A NANNY STATE WITH EXPECTATIONS FROM TOO MANY PEOPLE TO RELY ON WASHINGTON TO
TAKE CARE OF THEM INSTEAD OF RELYING ON SELF.
AS I WRITE IN MY BOOK “AMERICA’S EXPIRATION DATE,” DEBT IS ONE OF THE MAIN CONTRIBUTORS TO
THE COLLAPSE OF GREAT NATIONS. I’M CAL THOMAS.
