CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY DECEMBER 2, 2021
I HAVE SOME BAD NEWS. CONGRESS IS BACK. SENATE MAJORITY LEADER CHUCK SCHUMER IS
PROMISING A VOTE ON PRESIDENT BIDEN’S MASSIVE SOCIAL WELFARE BILL BY MID-DECEMBER. THEN
THERE’S THE ISSUE OF THE SO-CALLED “DEBT CEILING,” WHICH IS NO CEILING AT ALL, BECAUSE IT KEEPS
GETTING RAISED.
WHY HAVE A DEBT CEILING IF CONGRESS WON’T LIVE WITHIN THE MEANS WE TAXPAYERS
PROVIDE? THERE WILL BE THE USUAL EXTORTIONIST NEWS THAT IF THE DEBT CEILING ISN’T RAISED,
PARKS AND LIBRARIES WILL BE CLOSED AND SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS MIGHT BE DELAYED. THIS HAS
ALWAYS WORKED FOR DEMOCRATS IN THE PAST. THIS TIME, REPUBLICANS SHOULD HOLD THEIR GROUND
AND REFUSE TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING. CONGRESS WASTES SO MUCH MONEY THAT THE FOCUS
SHOULD BE ON CUTTING PENDING.
TAXPAYERS PROVIDE RECORD AMOUNTS OF REVENUE TO WASHINGTON, BUT TO POLITICIANS THE
MONEY IS LIKE DRUGS: THEY ARE NEVER SATISFIED AND CONSTANTLY CRAVE MORE AS THEY INCREASE
SPENDING AND ADDICT MORE PEOPLE TO GOVERNMENT TO PRESERVE THEIR CAREERS.
I AM PESSIMISTIC REPUBLICANS HAVE ENOUGH BACKBONE TO REFUSE TO RAISE THE DEBT
CEILING. VOTERS WHO PUT THEM IN OFFICE SHOULD ENCOURAGE THEM TO TRY. I’M CAL THOMAS.
