CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 14, 2022
THE CONGRESSIONAL ELECTIONS ARE NOVEMBER 8, BUT STARTING THIS FRIDAY IF YOU LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA YOU CAN VOTE EARLY – WAY EARLY.
AS THE WALL STREET JOURNAL NOTES, WHAT IF A CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS FOR HEALTH REASONS, OR A VOTER CHANGES HIS OR HER MIND? TOO BAD AND TOO LATE.
IN PENNSYLVANIA, VOTERS CAN CAST BALLOTS 50 DAYS BEFORE NOVEMBER 8 AND IN WISCONSIN ITS 47 DAYS. THOUSANDS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS HAVE ALREADY GONE OUT.
AS THE JOURNAL NOTES: “SENDING MAIL BALLOTS SHORTLY AFTER LABOR DAY TO ANYONE WHO ASKS DIMINISHES THE CAMPAIGN SEASON WHEN CANDIDATES AND THE MEDIA ARE MOST ENGAGED. STRETCHING THAT TIMELINE INTO ELECTION MONTHS ALSO HURTS CHALENGERS WHO ARE USUALLY LESS WELL KNOWN WITH LESS MONEY AND CAN’T AFFORD TO SPREAD THEIR ADVERTISING OUT OVER MANY WEEKS.”
THIS IS NO WAY TO INSURE ELECTION INTEGRITY AND COMBAT ALLEGATIONS OF VOTER FRAUD. WE SHOULD RETURN TO THE OLD WAY – AN ABSENTEE BALLOT IF YOU WILL BE OUT OF TOWN ON ELECTION DAY, OR HAVE A MEDICAL REASON, OR ANOTHER LEGITIMATE EXCUSE. ALL OTHERS SHOULD SHOW UP IN PERSON ON ELECTION DAY WITH A VALID ID. I’M CAL THOMAS.
