CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 18, 2023
YOU MAY BE AWARE—OR NOT – THAT MANY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES HAVE DONE AWAY WITH RECOGNITION OF VALEDICTORIANS AND SALUTATORIANS BECAUSE IT MIGHT MAKE THE LESS SUCCESSFUL FEEL BAD.
NOW WE LEARN THAT SOME VIRGINIA SCHOOLS HAVE DONE THEM ONE BETTER, OR ONE WORSE. SOME ARE WITHHOLDING TELLING STUDENTS ABOUT THEIR ACADEMIC AWARDS IN TIME FOR COLLEGE ADMISSIONS AND SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES. THE REASON? THIS WILL COME AS NO SURPRISE. EDUCATORS MADE EQUITY A PRIORITY OVER ACHIEVEMENT.
THIS HAS BECOME NORMAL IN MODERN AMERICA. ONCE, ACHIEVEMENT BASED ON HARD WORK AND MAKING RIGHT DECISIONS WAS AWARDED AND LAUDED. NOW IN THE NAME OF EQUITY, EQUALITY AND FAIRNESS, EVERYONE GETS DUMBED-DOWN TO THE SAME LEVEL.
IT’S THE SAME WITH GOVERNMENT WHICH REGULATES AND TAXES THE SUCCESSFUL AND SUBSIDIZES THE UNSUCCESSFUL.
IF WE DON’T ENCOURAGE, RECOGNIZE AND AWARD SUCCESS WE WILL GET LESS OF IT. AND IF WE SUBSIDIZE FAILURE AND LACK OF ACHIEVEMENT WE WILL GET MORE OF THAT.
VIRGINIA GOVERNOR GLENN YOUNGKIN IS ON THIS. HE RODE TO VICTORY ON EDUCATION ISSUES. THIS ONE MAY TAKE HIM EVEN FURTHER. I’M CAL THOMAS.
