CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 12, 2023
WITH A SLIM MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, REPUBLICANS HAVE LITTLE CHANCE OF PASSING THEIR LEGISLATIVE AGENDA OF SPENDING CUTS AND RESTORING BORDER SECURITY. BUT THEY CAN SHOW VOTERS THEY ARE SERIOUS ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD DO IF THEY WIN BACK THE SENATE AND PRESIDENCY NEXT YEAR.
ONE OF THOSE GOALS IS THE ELIMINATION OF THE HATED INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE AND INCOME TAX. GEORGIA CONGRESSMAN BUDDY CARTER IS INTRODUCING A BILL TO DO JUST THAT AND REPLACE THE INCOME TAX WITH A NATIONAL CONSUMPTION TAX.
STEVE FORBES HAS LONG ADVOCATED SUCH A CHANGE IN OUR TAXING SYSTEM. IT WOULD BE FAIR TO ALL AND GIVE EVERYONE SKIN IN THE GAME. HALF THE COUNTRY NOW PAYS NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX.
THE GRADUATED INCOME TAX IS A CENTURY OLD. IT HAS BEEN USED BY THE LEFT AS A POLITICAL AND SOCIAL WEAPON. THE IRS A GOVERNMENT AGENCY THAT CAN SEIZE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, PUT A LIEN ON YOUR HOUSE AND MAKE YOU PROVE YOUR INNOCENCE RATHER THAN THE GOVERNMENT PROVE YOUR GUILT.
IF PASSED, THE DEMOCRAT MAJORITY SENATE WON’T VOTE FOR IT, BUT IT MIGHT BE A GOOD STRATEGY TO GET THE PUBLIC’S ATTENTION AHEAD OF NEXT YEAR’S ELECTIONS. I’M CAL THOMAS.
