“HE GETS US”

    IF YOU WATCHED YESTERDAY’S SUPER BOWL YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN TWO ADS PAID FOR BY AN ORGANIZATION CALLED JESUS “GETS US.” THEY ARE DESCRIBED AS PRO-JESUS ADS AND COST $20 MILLION EACH. IT’S PART OF THEIR LARGER “HE GETS US” CAMPAIGN.

    ACCORDING TO ONE STORY, THE ORGANIZERS HOPE TO SPEND A BILLION DOLLARS IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS TO REDEEM – THEIR WORD – JESUS’ BRAND.

    HAS JESUS BECOME A BRAND, LIKE BEER, CHIPS AND DIP SUPER BOWL ADS? JESUS CAME TO EARTH TO LIVE THE PERFECT LIFE WE COULDN’T LIVE, DIE IN OUR PLACE TO PAY OUR SIN DEBT AND RISE AGAIN. HE HAD THE POWER TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE AND THE POWER TO TAKE IT UP AGAIN.

    I UNDERSTAND WHAT THE ORGANIZERS ARE TRYING TO DO – MAKE JESUS MORE “APPEALING” TO A YOUNGER GENERATION. BUT MANY ARE WATERING DOWN HIS REAL APPEAL AND THUS DILUTING HIS POWER AND MESSAGE.

    THE KEY IS HOW MANY SOULS CAN BE WON TO CHRIST IN ANY CAMPAIGN. IF THIS ONE WORKS, MORE OF HIS POWER TO THEM. IF NOT, THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE HAS WORKED WELL FOR TWO THOUSAND YEARS. I’M CAL THOMAS.
