I DON’T SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA, BUT YOUNGER PEOPLE DO AND THEY ARE THE TARGET FOR DEMOCRATS HOPING TO WIN THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL RACE AND SEATS IN CONGRESS.
THAT’S WHY A RULING ON TUESDAY BY A FEDERAL JUDGE IN LOUISIANA IS IMPORTANT. THE 155-PAGE OPINION IMPOSED TEMPORARY, BUT FAR-REACHING LIMITS ON HOW MEMBERS OF PRESIDENT BIDEN’S ADMINISTRATION CAN ENGAGE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA COMPANIES.
AS THE NEW YORK TIMES REPORTED, THE CASE IS A FLASHPOINT IN THE BROADER EFFORT BY CONSERVATIVES TO DOCUMENT WHAT THEY CONTEND IS A LIBERAL CONSPIRACY BY DEMOCRATS AND TECH COMPANY EXECUTIVES TO SILENCE THEIR VIEWS. IT TAPS INTO FURY ON THE RIGHT ABOUT HOW SOCIAL MEDIA COMPANIES TREATED STORIES ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF COVID, THE 2020 ELECTION AND HUNTER BIDEN’S PROBLEMS, NOT TO MENTION THE REST OF HIS FAMILY.
ALL OF THESE CONCERNS ARE VALID AND NOT LIMITED TO SOCIAL MEDIA. RECALL LOIS LERNER AND HOW SHE TRIED TO DENY TAX-EXEMPT STATUS TO CERTAIN CONSERVATIVE AND CHRISTIAN GROUPS.
THIS IS A CASE TO WATCH AS IT WILL LIKELY END UP BEFORE THE SUPREME COURT. I’M CAL THOMAS.
CT; It’s Gus the guy U were variously going to make yr PR man haha or flag down as a waiter at the MRC dinner. Fun sparring w U but methinks I’m a bit outmatched as U have much more practice than I at matching wits w wiseacres, many of them malicious in the opposition against guys like U who dont approve of their agenda. We need more people who willl set aside that nice-guy well mannered civilized bent I find in places like the MRC cruise bunch and respond less timidly to the down and dirty type of combat we’re in against the extremist left. I think I may have amused U by mentioning my Viking genes and the inclination to pillage and plunder against the enemy. We were talking about what carried U into our time after all these yrs in politics w/o becoming a nasty ol cynic and U told me U weren’t a hater and also yr outspoken reliance on yr faith. So I am trying to plow thru the rest of yr book and finding a sense of wonder that we lived thru all that. Keep the faith and maybe see U again out on some ocean. Thanks Gus. I think there is room for both sorts of personalities. Trump and DeSantis are tough. As I think I said we need to get off defense because the country is not being destroyed. By conservative values, but liberal ones. Not sure about next year’s cruise yet. Too early to tell. Thanks for writing and for being a good sport. Glad you are enjoying my book
