ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER INDICTMENT OF DONALD TRUMP, THIS TIME IN GEORGIA ALONG WITH 18 OTHERS, INCLUDING FORMER NEW YORK MAYOR RUDY GIULIANI AND FORMER CHIEF OF STAFF MARK MEADOWS. THE CHARGES INCLUDE RACKETEERING IN THEIR ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF THE 2020 ELECTION IN GEORGIA.
AS MANY COMMENTARORS HAVE NOTED, THESE MAY BE THE MOST SERIOUS CHARGES OF ALL BECAUSE THEY DIRECTLY RELATE TO ACTIONS TRUMP AND THE OTHERS MAY HAVE TAKEN AND CAN’T BE COMPLETELY BLAMED ON AN OVER-ZEALOUS DEMOCRAT PROSECUTOR. TRUMP HAS UNTIL AUGUST 25TH TO TURN HIMSELF IN. HE’LL LIKELY GET BAIL, BUT THIS FURTHER COMPLICATES THE NEXT ELECTION.
IF TRUMP WINS THE GOP NOMINATION AND THE PRESIDENCY HE COULD PARDON HIMSELF, OR STOP ANY FEDERAL TRIALS, BUT HE WOULD HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE STATE CASE IN GEORGIA. THAT IS POWER GIVEN BY THE CONSTITUTION TO THE STATES TO REGULATE THEIR OWN ELECTIONS.
WHAT A MESS THIS IS. HOW WILL IT BE RESOLVED AND WHAT HAPPENS IF TRUMP IS CONVICTED IN GEORGIA? WOULD BE JAILED? THIS IS A DRAMA UNLIKE ANY WE HAVE SEEN IN THIS COUNTRY’S EXISTENCE AND IT IS TEARING US APART. I’M CAL THOMAS.
Tragedy that both major candidates are both under an ethical cloud. It would be nice to say we won’t impeach or imprison them if they drop out and promise “go and sin no more”. It would do well to tell Republicans that Donald Trump in not a martyr but severely ethically challenged. We must resist Trumpolatry and focus our energy on getting a candidate to promote our policies without the his character baggage.
One major tragedy pertains to Jenna Ellis, at one time a fine Christian who was accurate in her assessment of Trump in 2016. Unfortunately she made what you described as a Faustian bargain, resulting in being hit with professional discipline and now being caught in this indictment. It seems almost everyone who gets close to Trump ends up losing their dignity
