CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 28, 2023
DEMOCRATIC SENATOR BOB MENENDEZ OF NEW JERSEY HAS BEEN INDICTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES OF CORRUPTION. THE 39-PAGE INDICTMENT ACCUSES MENENDEZ AND HIS WIFE, NADINE, OF ACCEPTING BRIBES IN EXCHANGE FOR THE SENATOR’S POLITICAL INFLUENCE AT HOME AND ABROAD ON BEHALF OF BOTH THE GOVERNMENT OF EGYPT AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATES IN NEW JERSEY. MENENDEZ, WHO ESCAPED ON SIMILAR CORRUPTION CHARGES ONCE BEFORE WHEN A JURY COULDN’T DECIDE HIS GUILT OR INNOCENCE, DENIES ALL THE CURRENT CHARGES.
MENENDEZ CLAIMS THE CASH — $500 THOUSAND OF IT – WAS FROM HIS PERSONAL ACCOUNT AND WAS FOR HIS OWN FINANCIAL PROTECTION. I ALWAYS HAVE LARGE AMOUNTS OF CASH STUFFED IN MY POCKETS, DON’T YOU? SO FAR HE HASN’T EXPLAINED HOW HE RECEIVED SEVERAL GOLD BARS THAT ARE ALSO PART OF THE INDICTMENT.
NEW JERSEY, ALONG WITH ILLINOIS, ARE HISTORICALLY CORRUPT STATES, BUT VOTERS KEEP ELECTING DEMOCRATS. DO THEY EXPECT DIFFERENT OUTCOMES?
THIS IS ONE MORE IN A CONTINUING ARGUMENT FOR TERM LIMITS. IT MAY TAKE A CONSTITUTIONAL CIONVENTION OF THE STATES TO ENACT IT. I’M CAL THOMAS.
