FINALLY, THERE IS A SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE. HE IS 51-YEAR-OLD MIKE JOHNSON FROM LOUISIANA. JOHNSON IS A CONSERVATIVE AND OPENLY CHRISTIAN. HE INVOKED GOD AND SCRPTURE IN HIS ACCEPTANCE SPEECH.
THAT WON’T MATTER TO SECULAR PROGRESSIVES, SOME OF WHOM ARE ALREADY DENOUNCING HIM AFTER HIS MAGNANAMOUS SPEECH THAT CONTAINED SOMETHING RARELY SEEN IN WASHINGTON: HUMILITY.
AS A WALL STREET JOURNAL EDITORIAL SAID: “THE QUESTION IS WHETHER THE REPUBLICAN MALCONTENTS WILL LET HIM GOVERN IN A WAY THEY REFUSED HIS DEPOSED PREDECESSOR, KEVIN MCCARTHY. IT WON’T TAKE LONG TO FIND OUT. GOVERNMENT FUNDING EXPIRES NOVEMBER 17, AND AMERICA’S FRIENDS IN ISRAEL, UKRAINE AND TAIWAN NEED MILITARY HELP TO DEFEND THEMSELVES.”
JOHNSON PLEDGED TO NAME A BI-PARTISAN TEAM TO ATTACK THE UNSUSTAINABLE DEBT. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. DEMOCRATS WON’T GO ALONG. ASKING THEM TO CUT SPENDING IS LIKE ASKING DRACULA TO DRINK LESS BLOOD. THEY WANT A GOVERNMENT SHUTDWN IF THEY DON’T GET TO SPEND MORE. AS USUAL, REPUBLICANS WILL BE BLAMED. THE MEDIA ARE ALREADY ON THAT KICK.
SO GOOD LUCK, MR. SPEAKER. YOU WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOURSELF. OTHERS SHOULD, TOO. I’M CAL THOMAS.
Finally we have a Speaker and can get back to business. We need to pray for the success of our duly constituted leaders. It is nice when the Speaker can openly quote the Bible like that and affirm divine purpose in government operations. I must say that if he truly believes the Bible, he needs to clearly acknowledge the truth (set forth by numerous Republican judges and other officials) that Joe Biden won the 2020 election fair and square and repudiate election denialism rather than kowtow to those for whom no amount of evidence would persuade them. While we rightfully hope for a more godly man to win the presidency in 2024, the reality is that Biden is our duly elected president. Also while Christianity involves warfare, such warfare must be fought only with spiritual weapons, with a clear condemnation of any political violence (a study of the East German Peaceful Revolution would help here). If Mike Johnson does those things, Christians should rejoice in having a godly man in such a position. Otherwise, we should be concerned. One problem is how things have deteriorated to the point where nobody can buy or sell in the Republican party without receiving the mark of the orange beast (Revelation 13).
