IMPEACHING MYORKAS WON’T HELP

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 11, 2024

THE IMPEACHMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY ALEJANDRO MYORKAS BEGAN YESTERDAY WITH A HOUSE COMMITTEE HEARING FROM ATTORNEYS GENERAL FROM SEVERAL BORDER STATES.

WE HAVE NO BORDER AND LIKE A BURST PIPE, THE HEAVY FLOW OF MIGRANTS ARE FLOODING THE COUNTRY.

PREDICTABLY, MYORKAS BLAMES CONGRESS, THOUGH CONGRESS HAS APPROPRIATED MORE MONEY THAN THE SECRETARY ASKED FOR. AND REPUBLICANS BLAME HIM FOR NOT ENFORCING THE LAW.

IMPEACHING MYORKAS WON’T SOLVE THE PROBLEM, WHICH BEGINS WITH PRESIDENT BIDEN. ON HIS FIRST DAY IN OFFICE, BIDEN ISSUED EXECUTIVE ORDERS REVERSING 100 ORDERS FROM HIS PREDECESSOR. THESE INCLUDED STOPPING WORK ON THE WALL.

FINISHING THE WALL WILL HELP. IT WILL TAKE A REPUBLICAN JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO POSSIBLY ESTABLISH SPECIAL IMMIGRATION COURTS TO ASSESS THE ASYLUM CLAIMS OF THE IMMIGRANTS. SOME OF THOSE CLAIMS WON’T BE HEARD FOR A DECADE. THAT’S HOW FAR THE BACKUP IS. A STRONG WALL, MORE TECHNOLOGY, MORE BORDER PATROL AND RAPID DEPORTATION WILL RE-ESTABLISH SECURITY AT THE SOUTHERN BORDER AND MAKE AMERICA SAFER. I’M CAL THOMAS.
