CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 12, 2024
I WATCHED SOME OF THE EXCHANGES BETWEEN REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES RON DESANTIS AND NIKKI HALEY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE WORD “LIAR” WAS REPEATEDLY USED BY BOTH CANDIDATES. THE EVENT, LIKE SO MANY OTHERS, DID LITTLE TO INFORM VOTERS. IF YOU LIKE MUD WRESTLING YOU ENJOY THESE DOG AND PONY SHOWS.
I HAVE A COLUMN COMING ON THIS SUBJECT NEXT TUESDAY, BUT HERE’S A PREVIEW. WHEN RONALD REAGAN SPOKE OF HIS POLITICAL OPPOSITES, HE WOULD SAY “OUR FRIENDS IN THE OTHER PARTY.” NOW WE TREAT FELLOW AMERICANS THE WAY WE OUGHT TO TREAT VLADIMIR PUTIN, XI JINPING AND IRAN’S AYATOLLAHS. WHY DO WE CALL OUR FELLOW AMERICANS NAMES AND INSULT THEM?
PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THEY CAN’T HAVE RATIONAL CONSERVATIONS WITH OTHERS WHO FAVOR A DIFFERENT CANDIDATE BECAUSE OF THE ANGER THAT ENSUES. SOME SAY THIS INCLUDES PEOPLE IN BIBLE STUDIES.
DON’T WE HAVE ENOUGH ENEMIES OUTSIDE AMERICA WHO WANT TO DESTROY US? WHY ARE WE HELPING THEM BY MIMICKING THEIR RHETORIC?
IN HIS SECOND INAUGURAL ADDRESS NEAR THE END OF THE CIVIL WAR, ABRAHAM LINCOLN SAID OF CONFEDERATES, “WE ARE NOT ENEMIES, BUT FRIENDS.” OH, THAT SUCH AN ATTITUDE COULD BE EXPRESSED BY TODAY’S POLITICIANS. I’M CAL THOMAS.
