CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FOR FEBRUARY 15, 2024
TUESDAY’S SPECIAL ELECTION IN NEW YOEK TO FILL THE SEAT OF FABULIST AND SERIAL LIAR GEORGE SANTOS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CLOSE AND WITHIN THE MARGIN OF ERROR. INSTEAD, DEMOCRAT TOM SOUZZI BEAT MAZI PILIP BY EIGHT POINTS, MAKING THE ALREADY RAZOR THIN HOUSE MAJORITY EVEN THINNER.
A MASSIVE SNOWSTORM HELPED SOUZZI AS TOO MANY REPUBLICANS STAYED HOME AND DEMOCRATS BENEFITTED FROM EARLY VOTING.
WHILE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION WAS THE TOP ISSUE, SOUZZI PLAYED IT BETTER THAN PILIP. HE CRITICIZED PILIP FOR NOT SUPPORTING A BIPARTISAN SENATE BILL THAT WOULD HAVE SUPPOSEDLY STRENGTHENED BORDER SECURITY, BUT WOULD STILL HAVE ALLOWED AS MANY AS 5,000 A DAY INTO THE COUNTRY.
DEMOCRATS SEE THIS WIN AS A PATTERN FOR WINNING OTHER RACES BY TAKING ON ISSUES LIKE IMMIGRATION AND ABORTION HEAD-ON. SOUZZI MUST RUN AGAIN FOR A FULL TERM IN NOVEMBER AND WILL PROBABLY FACE PILIP AGAIN. MAYBE THE WEATHER WILL COOPERATE THEN AND THE TRADITIONALLY REPUBLICAN DISTRICT WILL FLIP BACK TO RED. AGAIN, IT’S ALL ABOUT TURNOUT AND STRIKING THE RIGHT NOTE ON IMMIGRATION. I’M CAL THOMAS.
