CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 9, 2024
HOW ABOUT SOMETHING DIFFERENT TODAY. INSTEAD OF WARS, POLITICS AND THE REST, LET’S TALK WOMEN’S BASKETBALL.
I WATCHED SOUTH CAROLINA BEAT IOWA IN THE WOMEN’S NCAA COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP ON SUNDAY. INSTEAD OF EXPECTING A JUNIOR VARSITY VERSION OF MEN’S BASKETBALL, I SAW TALENT, STRATEGY AND GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. I ALSO NOTICED A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TEAMS. SOME OF THE WOMEN WORE MAKEUP, FALSE EYELASHES AND SPECTACULAR COLORS IN THEIR HAIR. ONE PLAYER WORE EARRINGS. MANY ON THE MEN’S TEAMS WERE COVERED IN TATOOS, SOMETHING I DON’T QUITE UNDERSTAND.
IS THAT SEXIST TO NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TEAMS? I DON’T THINK SO, ANYMORE THAN IT IS SEXIST TO SAY MEN AND WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT; NOT DIFFERENT IN VALUE BEFORE GOD, BUT DIFFERENT.
I LOVE THAT CAITLYN CLARK IS ON HER WAY TO PLAY PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL. I ONCE PLAYED BASKETBALL IN HIGH SCHOOL AND MY FRESHMAN YEAR IN COLLEGE. IT IS A GAME, LIKE OTHER SPORTS, THAT REWARDS TALENT AND HARDWORK. COME TO THINK OF IT THAT’S WHAT ALL OF AMERICA AND NOT JUST SPORTS USED TO BE. I’M CAL THOMAS.
