LIZ CHENEY’S FLIP

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY OCTOBER 7, 2024

FORMER REPUBLICAN CONGRESSWOMAN LIZ CHENEY IS CAMPAIGNING FOR KAMALA HARRIS IN THE SWING STATE OF WISCONSIN. IT’S MORE ANTI-TRUMP THAN PRO-HARRIS. CONSIDER, THOUGH, WHAT CHENEY HAS SAID ABOUT HARRIS IN THE PAST.

EVEN AFTER THE JANUARY 6, 2021 CAPITOL RIOT, CHENEY CALLED HARRIS A “RADICAL LIBERAL” WHO “SOUNDS LIKE KARL MARX.”

SHE ALSO OPPOSED HARRIS WHEN HARRIS SAID WE SHOULD HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT WHETHER CONVICTED FELONS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO VOTE, SOMETHING BERNIE SANDERS SUPPORTS.

WHEN JOE BIDEN PICKED HER TO BE HIS RUNNING MATE, HERE’S HOW CHENEY REACTED: “KAMALA HARRIS IS A RADICAL LIBERAL WHO WOULD RAISE TAXES, TAKE AWAY GUNS AND HEALTH INSURANCE, AND EXPLODE THE SIZE AND POWER OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. SHE WANTS TO RECREATE AMERICA IN THE IMAGE OF SEATTLE AND PORTLAND. WE WON’T GIVE HER THAT CHANCE.”

SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE WITH CONVICTIONS, RIGHT? NOT IN WASHINGTON WHERE THE ONLY POLITICIANS WITH CONVICTIONS ARE IN OR ON THEIR WAY TO PRISON.

LIZ CHENEY IS ENTITLED TO SUPPORT WHOMEVER SHE WISHES, BUT SUCH A RADICAL SHIFT RAISES A LOT OF QUESTIONS. SHE REMINDS ME OF THE OLD GROUCHO MARX LINE: “I HAVE PRINCIPLES. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THEM, I HAVE OTHERS.” I’M CAL THOMAS.

“HARRIS SAID WE SHOULD HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT WHETHER CONVICTED FELONS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO VOTE”.

But of course. Do said felons who work pay withholding taxes? Please. Then they bought the right to vote.

My take on Liz Cheney is simple. Her hatred for Trump has overcome otherwise good judgement and a needed focus on the real issues. I do not like Trump and I am utterly disappointed that neither party chose to put forth a better candidate. Cheney can’t see straight. If Cheney were an item in the fridge or pantry we would immediately check the expiration date. There’s a segway to your timely book as we face an election with an impossible choice at the top!

Unfortunately, there are too many “Liz Cheney’s” voting against the Republican Party. It’s unpatriotic to intentionally hurt American citizens, which will happen under Harris if elected. I wish there had been another Republican Presidential candidate besides Trump, but I will stand and vote with the Republican party. I remind myself that living in a “Trump” world vs. “Biden” world was much better.

While I did not watch the VP debate, I haven’t seen any negative feedback about Walz claiming he was a “knucklehead” when telling lies about his China trip. Since when does “knucklehead” mean the same as “liar”? Being a liar is intentionally telling an untrue fact/story; being a “knucklehead”, however, is just doing something stupid. First, the moderators asked Walz that question at the beginning of the debate (to get the elephant out of the room) allowing him to focus on it; and second, he laughed about it calling himself a “knucklehead”. No, he is a liar and has a history of doing so.

One can make the case that by endorsing Kamala Harris, Liz Cheney is merely taking some things you have said to their logical conclusion. You have used the word insurrection to describe January 6, saying it was not conservatism, resulting in a situation that overwhelmed legitimate policy disagreements. You have conceded that Trump has largely brought his legal problems upon himself. You would be hard pressed to find someone who agrees with your idea more than Cheney that Trump has done a lot of good, but at what cost? In her mind, that cost offsets any good he might offer. Whatever concerns Cheney and numerous other conservatives have over Harris’s possible Marxist ideas, they see her as better equipped to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution rather than terminating it or be dictator for a day.
