CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY NOVEMBER 15, 2025
IT ISN’T OFTEN THAT I FIND MERIT IN A WASHINGTON POST EDITORIAL, BUT IN ITS OPINION ABOUT THREE OF DONALD TRUMP’S NOMINEES, I – AND THE POST – HAVE SERIOUS RESERVATIONS.
REP. MATT GAETZ IS A FIREBRAND, WITH LITTLE LEGAL EXPERIENCE. TRUMP HAS NOMINATED GAETZ TO BE ATTORNEY GENERAL. WHILE THE PRESIDENT-ELECT IS RIGHT ABOUT CORRUPTION AND LAWFARE IN THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, GAETZ MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB.
AS THE POST EDITORIAL NOTES: “IN ADDITION TO HIS LACK OF LEGAL EXPERIENCE, GAETZ IS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE HOUSE ETHICS COMMITTEE FOR ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT, ILLEGAL DRUG USE AND ACCEPTING IMPROPER GIFTS. FEDERAL PROSECUTORS INVESTIGATED HIM FOR SEX TRAFFICKING THAT REVOLVED AROUND ALLEGATIONS HE PAID FOR SEX AND HAS A SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH A MINOR. THEY DECLINED TO FILE CHARGES BECAUSE THEY HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THE CREDIBILITY OF TWO WITNESSES. GAETZ HAS DENIED ALL WRONGDOING.”
NEW SENATE MAJORITY LEADER JOHN THUNE HAS PROMISED TO GET TRUMP’S NOMINEES CONFIRMED QUICKLY. HE AND ALL SENATORS SHOULD SPEND TIME WITH GAETZ AND THE TWO OTHER INEXPERIENCED NOMINEES. MORE NEEDS TO BE LEARNED ABOUT THEIR QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITY TO DO THE JOBS TO WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN NOMINATED. I’M CAL THOMAS.
