CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FEBRUARY 21, 2025
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS CALLED UKRANIAN PRESIDENT VLODYMYR ZELENSKYY A “DICTATOR” WHO DUPED AMERICA INTO SENDING AID. ZELENSKYY RESPONDED, ACCUSING TRUMP OF LIVING IN A “BUBBLE OF RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION.”
IS THIS ANY WAY TO TREAT A SUPPOSED EUROPEAN ALLY? HAS TRUMP FORGOTTEN IT WAS RUSSIA’S VLADIMIR PUTIN WHO INVADED UKRAINE AND HAS CAUSED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CIVILIAN DEATHS? WHERE IS TRUMP’S CONDEMNATION OF PUTIN WHOM HE INCREASINGLY WANTS TO COZY-UP TO? THE PRESIDENT SAYS HE AND PUTIN MAY MEET AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK. WHY? WITHOUT AN UNDERSTANDING IN ADVANCE OF WHAT SUCH A MEETING WILL PRODUCE, IT CAN ONLY GIVE PUTIN, WHO IS A MURDERER AND A REAL DICTATOR, THE CREDIBILITY HE SEEKS.
A WALL STREET JOURNAL ARTICLE YESTERDAY BEGINS THIS WAY: “PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS DRAMATICALLY SHIFTED THE DIRECTION OF U.S. FOREIGN POLICY IN FOUR SHORT WEEKS, MAKING THE U.S. A LESS RELIABLE ALLY AND RETREATING FROM GLOBAL COMMITMENTS IN WAYS THAT FUNDAMENTALLY RESHAPE AMERICA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE WORLD.” SOME OF THAT RE-SHAPING IS LONG OVERDUE, BUT NOT WHAT THE PRESIDENT IS DOING TO UKRAINE. I’M CAL THOMAS.
I remember back in the day when it was Ronald Reagan and the Republicans who took a hard line against the Kremlin and supported Eastern Europeans striving for freedom, while the Democrats were more accommodating. Later on, I saw the plaque in Berlin where Reagan had said “Tear down this wall,” validating everything I had felt about him. Curiously, in spite of a long list of disagreements you and I have against Kamala Harris, she was the one who said things in the last election similar to what you say in this article.
Re: war of Words post –
After watching Trump/Zelensky meeting debacle, my impression was that Donald was “out of his league.” This was not a poker game with inconsequential circumstances (having the “cards”, etc.). This is a situation which could have serious consequences for the US & our allies (those that still trust) us). I wish there could have been more adults in that room!
So tell me why we need to send 300 billion to a country that has little to no concern to the US? Does anyone really know where all that money went? Ukraine was already considered one of the most corrupt countries in the world, which might explain why the sale of Mercedes-Benzs skyrocketed once those funds arrived. Even the Azov batallion is literally made up of nazis. I’m not a fan of Putin, but it was NATO‘s plan to park nukes on his front porch. Think of it as the Cuban missile crisis in reverse. We wouldn’t stand for nukes in Cuba, why are we surprised he wasn’t going to allow it in Ukraine?
