CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 26, 2025
ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER SHOOTING.
IN DALLAS WEDNESDAY, A MAN TARGETED WHAT HE THOUGHT WERE IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOM ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. ONE PERSON WAS KILLED AND TWO OTHERS WOUNDED. THEY WERE NOT ICE OFFICERS, BUT DETAINEES, OR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
WE ARE HEARING OF INCREASING ATTACKS AGAINST ICE OFFICERS WHO ARE UPHOLDING THE LAW AS THEY ROOT OUT ILLEGAL ALIENS, INCLUDING THOSE WITH CONVICTIONS FOR VIOLENT CRIMES. THE DALLAS SHOOTER, WHO KILLED HIMSELF, HAD ANTI-ICE WORDS WRITTEN ON HIS SHELL CASINGS.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A COPYCAT SHOOTING? MESSAGES WERE ALSO WRITTEN ON THE SHELL CASINGS OF THE MAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING CHARLIE KIRK.
POLITICIANS AND OTHERS HAVE ISSUED STATEMENTS, CLLS FOR PRAYERS AND MORE. “THIS HAS GOT TO STOP,” THEY SAY. YES, IT DOES, BUT HOW? SOME HAVE DEFAULTED TO MORE GUN CONTROL. THAT’S A NON-STARTER. OTHERS SAY IT’S A MORAL AND SPIRITUAL MATTER, AND SO IT IS. BUT WHAT SPECIFICALLY CAN BE DONE TO QUELL THE VIOLENCE? SOME ICE OFFICERS SAY THEY ARE FOLLOWED HOME BY PROTESTORS.
WE HAVE A PROBLEM IN AMERICA. IN FACT, WE MAY BE REAPING WHAT WE HAVE SOON FOR SEVERAL DECADES. I’M CAL THOMAS.
While the First Amendment is an important right on free speech, it has never been held to be absolute (incitement to violence has been ruled as not protected). Why should the Second Amendment be absolute? How many murderers purchased their guns legally after displaying red flags? The problem is both sides use the meat axe approach rather than the surgical knife. Democrats try to prevent law-abiding citizens from getting guns. Republicans promote guns for everyone and vainly hope the good guy with a gun can overpower the bad guy with a gun. Why not a nuanced approach allowing law-abiding citizens to have guns but look for ways to restrict gun sales to people with obvious criminal tendencies (red flags)?
Btw, any plans to comment on the Kirk service? Erika Kirk had some wonderful comments where the spirit of the gospel came through. Even Jimmy Kimmel expressed admiration. Unfortunately much of it got lost with the way Trump stirred up the pot, both at the service and some of the other controversies arising at the same time. It seems unusual for you not to weigh in on that one
Yes I wrote a column about the Kirk shooting
You could find it in your local paper if theycarry me or on this website under columns
I did find your comments on an external website, which are spot on.
