CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 23, 2020
THE DEATH OF SUPREME COURT ASSOCIATE JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CONSTITUTIONALISTS WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR FIFTY YEARS.
GINSBURG IS BEING PRAISED BY THE LEFT, BECAUSE SHE, LIKE OTHER LIBERAL JUSTICES, TREATED THE CONSTITUTION AS SOMETHING TO BE MOULDED INTO THEIR VIEW OF LAW AND THE WORLD. PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS VOWED TO NAME A CONSERVATIVE WOMAN TO THE COURT AND SENATE MAJORITY LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL SAYS THERE WILL BE A VOTE ON HIS NOMINEE. SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN LINDSEY GRAHAM SAYS REPUBLICANS HAVE THE VOTES TO CONFIRM, THOUGH THAT MAY BE DOUBTFUL. SUSAN COLLINS OF MAINE, WHO VOTED UNDER PRESSURE TO CONFIRM BRETT KAVANAUGH, SAYS SHE WANTS TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE NOVEMBER 3RD ELECTION. ALASKA’S LISA MURKOWSKI SAYS SHE WON’T VOTE BEFORE THE ELECTION. IF ONLY ONE MORE REPUBLICAN DOES THE SAME THE VOTE WOULD BE TIED WITH VICE PRESIDENT MIKE PENCE CASTING THE DECIDING VOTE, WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE WITH A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE.
ADD ALL THIS TO THE ALREADY HIGH STAKES ELECTION YEAR DRAMA AND PRAY THAT GOD’S WILL BE DONE. I’M CAL THOMAS.
