Thankfulness

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY NOVEMBER 25, 2020

IF YOU STILL HAVE A JOB, MONEY IN THE BANK, DON’T KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS THE VIRUS, OR HAS DIED AND YOU DON’T HAVE IT, YOU HAVE MUCH FOR WHICH TO BE THANKFUL.

BUT WHAT IF ONE OR MORE OF THESE DON’T APPLY TO YOU, CAN YOU STILL GIVE THANKS TODAY?

AS AMERICANS WE ARE THE MOST FORTUNATE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. WE HAVE FREEDOMS FEW ELSE ENJOY, DESPITE THE SOMETIMES ARBITRARY RESTRICTIONS SLAPPED ON US BY OFFICIALS, WHO IN MANY CASES DON’T APPLY THEM TO THEMSELVES. SOME ARE THANKFUL ONLY BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY CAN GET FROM LIFE.

JONI MITCHELL HAD A SONG IN THE 70’S CALLED “BIG YELLOW TAXI.” ONE OF THE LYRICS WAS “DON’T IT ALWAYS SEEM TO GO THAT YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’VE GOT ‘TIL IT’S GONE.”

HERE’S ANOTHER ONE, COURTESY OF STEPHEN SONDHEIM. IT COULD APPLY TO THOSE WHO ARE ISOLATING IN FEAR BECAUSE OF THE VIRUS: “ALONE IS ALONE, NOT ALIVE.” BE THANKFUL FOR BEING ALIVE AND MAY YOU HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING BY FOCUSING ON YOUR BLESSINGS AND ON OTHERS. I’M CAL THOMAS AND GTHAT’S MY COMMENTARY ON WMAL.
