THE METHODIST CHURCH HAS BEEN IN DECLINE FOR MANY YEARS. DONATIONS ARE WAY DOWN. IT’S NO SECRET WHY. THEY HAVE ABANDONED THE CENTRAL TENANTS OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH AND EMBRACED THE WORLD.
THE DENOMINATION’S GENERAL CONFERENCE IS MEETING THIS WEEK IN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA. MARK TOOLEY, WHO WRITES FOR THE WEBSITE JUICY ECUMINISM, SAYS THE METHODISTS ARE ENACTING A SEXUAL REVOLUTION. THE DENOMINATION THAT CLAIMS JOHN WESLEY AS ITS FOUNDER IS SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING A RESOLUTION THAT WILL DISCONNECT SEX FROM MARRIAGE, EVEN MONOGAMY. THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HAS OFFICIALLY TAUGHT “SEXUAL RELATIONS ARE AFFIRMED ONLY WITH THE COVENANT OF MONOGAMOUS, HETEROSEXUAL MARRIAGE.”
THE PROPOSED REVISION, APPROVED BY 75 PERCENT IN COMMITTEE, SAYS “WE AFFIRM HUMAN SEXUALITY AS A SACRED GIFT AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SEXUAL INTIMACY CONTRIBUTES TO FOSTERING THE EMOTIONAL, SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING OF INDIVIDUALS AND TO NURTURING HEALTHY SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS THAT ARE GROUNDED IN LOVE, CARE AND RESPECT.”
I DON’T RECALL READING ANY OF THIS IN SCRIPTURE. METHODISTS APPEAR NOT TO BE READING SCRIPTURE AT ALL, OR BELIEVING WHAT GOD SAYS. I’M CAL THOMAS.
You are correct about such abominations. However good journalism requires that you identify it as the United Methodist Church as compared to other Methodist denominations. The same would hold true in regards to Lutherans (the ELCA versus the Missouri Synod). My guess is you would demand a clarification on such an article pertaining to Presbyterians over abominations perpetrated by the Presbyterian Church-USA.
The Global Methodist Church still holds true to the original Methodist doctrine. You are correct that the United Methodist Church has now turned to the world and abandoned the things John Wesley taught in regards to monogamy and heterosexuality. You would be aligned with the Global Methodist Church that had to break off from the more liberal United Methodist Church in past years. Our more conservative church in Texas split off from the United Methodist Church last year becoming “Global Methodists” by an 89% vote because of many of the reasons you stated. Thank you for calling attention to the dwindling United Methodist denomination in the United States.
