CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY DECEMBER 20, 2024
CONGRESS CALLS IT A CONTINUING RESOLUTION, OR IN WASHINGTON JARGON A “CR.” THE HOUSE BILL THAT SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON HAS EFFECTIVELY PULLED FROM THE FLOOR IS NOTHING OF THE KIND. IT IS CONTINUED SPENDING OF MONEY WE DON’T HAVE, ADDING MORE TO THE UNSUSTAINABLE $36 TRILLION DEBT. PERHAPS WE SHOULD CALL IT A “CS.”
MEMBERS, INCLUDING REPUBLICANS, HAVE ADDED SPENDING THAT MOSTLY PRESERVES THEIR POSITIONS IN CONGRESS AND HELPS SPECIAL INTERESTS. THE BILL IS OVER 1500 PAGES LONG AND NO ONE WOULD HAVE HAD TIME TO READ IT BEFORE VOTING.
PRESIDENT ELECT TRUMP, VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT J.D. VANCE ASND ELON MUSK OPPOSE THE MEASURE AND SO IT WILL DIE. SPEAKER JOHNSON SAYS HE HAS A “PLAN B” THAT WILL AVOID A SO-CALLED “GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.” HE HAS ALSO PROMISED WHEN BOTH HOUSES ARE UNDER GOP CONTROL BEGINNING JANUARY 3, REFORMS WILL BEGIN TO HAPPEN. WE’VE BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD BEFORE AND IT NEVER ENDS WELL. I’M CAL THOMAS,
