The Apostle's Creed, Trump And The Post

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY DECEMBER 7, 2018

THE APOSTLE’S CREED WAS PART OF THE SERVICE FOR GEORGE H.W. BUSH WEDNESDAY AT THE NATIONAL CATHEDRAL. IT IS KNOWN NOT ONLY IN EPISCOPAL CIRCLES, BUT IN VIRTUALLY ALL EVANGELICAL CIRCLES. THE NICENE CREED IS ALSO FAMILIAR TO BELIEVERS. BOTH CREEDS GIVE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHRISTIANS TO RE-STATE THEIR FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST AS GOD’S SON.

AT THE BUSH FUNERAL, FORMER PRESIDENTS OBAMA,  CLINTON, CARTER AND THEIR WIVES READ IT ALOUD. PRESIDENT TRUMP AND HIS WIFE DID NOT. TO THE WASHINGTON POST THIS WAS A BIG DEAL. THE PAPER SAID THIS ADDED TO THE CONTROVERSY ABOUT TRUMP’S FAITH AND EVANGELICAL SUPPORT FOR HIM.

DURING AN INTERVIEW IN 2015 I ASKED CANDIDATE TRUMP “WHO IS JESUS?” HIS ANSWER WAS WHAT ONE TYPICALLY HEARS FROM A NON BELIEVER – A GREAT MODEL, A GOOD TEACHER, THAT SORT OF THING. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT OUR ROLE TO QUESTION THE FAITH OF ANOTHER, UNLESS THE PERSON SAYS HE DOESN’T BELIEVE JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD AND THAT RECEIVING HIM AS SAVIOR IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO BE SAVED.

WE ARE COMMANDED TO PRAY FOR ALL LEADERS, HOWEVER. I’M PRETTY SURE THE WRITERS AT THE WASHINGTON POST DON’T PRAY FOR THE PRESIDENT. DO YOU? I’M CAL THOMAS.
