CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 30, 2019
DAVID FRENCH IS A WRITER FOR NATIONAL REVIEW. RECENTLY HE WROTE A COMMENTARY CRITICIZING FRANKLIN GRAHAM FOR HIS UNQUALIFIED SUPPORT OF PRESIDENT TRUMP. FRENCH NOTED THAT GRAHAM WAS SEVERLY CRITICAL OF BILL CLINTON’S ADULTERIES, BUT NOW SAYS IT’S TRUMP’S POLICIES, NOT HIS CHARACTER THAT MATTER.
FRENCH BELIEVES SUCH UNCRITICAL AND HYPOCRITICAL BEHAVIOR HARMS THE EVANGELICAL WITNESS. THERE IS A GREATER ISSUE. PAUL WRITES TO TIMOTHY THAT ALL AUTHORITY IS FROM GOD AND THAT INCLUDES GOOD AND BAD LEADERS. I ONCE TOLD PRESIDENT OBAMA THAT OUR CONGREGATION PRAYED FOR HIM EVERY SUNDAY AND THAT I BELIEVED GOD PLACED HIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE FOR GOD’S OWN PURPOSES. HE TOLD ME HE BELIEVED THAT, TOO.
SHOULD FOLLOWERS OF JESUS BE KNOWN AS PEOPLE WHO CONDEMN, OR AS PEOPLE WHO PRAY FOR FELLOW SINNERS? HOW MANY PRAY FOR THOSE THEY DIDN’T VOTE FOR? IT IS FINE TO PUBLICLY REPLY TO SOMEONE WHO MISQUOTES SCRIPTURE IN DEFENSE OF ONE’S LIFESTYLE CHOICES, BUT ONE MUST BE CONSISTENT TO BE CREDIBLE. IN ANY CASE, NO ONE’S MIND HIS CHANGED BY CONDEMNATION. RECALL THE WOMAN TAKEN IN ADULTERY TO WHOM JESUS SAID HE WOULD NOT CONDEMN HER, BUT GO AND SIN NO MORE. PLEASE CONSIDER JOHN 3:17. I’M CAL THOMAS.
