MEMORIES OF RUSH

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FEBRUARY 19, 2021

KIND, GENEROUS, FRIENDLY, AND THE BIGGEST ANTIDOTE TO LIBERALISM IN THE COUNTRY. I’M SPEAKING OF RUSH LIMBAUGH, A ONE-MAN VACCINATION AGAINST LIBERAL CRAZYNESS, WHO DIED OF LUNG CANCER WEDNESDAY AT 70.

I KNEW RUSH. HE INVITED US TO HIS WEDDING TO KATHRYN 10 YEARS AGO. HE WAS MORE THAN KIND TO ME, SOMETIMES QUOTING FROM ONE OF MY COLUMNS AND LAST YEAR PLUGGING MY LATEST BOOK.

RUSH FREQUENTLY TALKED ABOUT GOD, BUT NOT IN A PERSONAL WAY. WHEN HE WAS DIAGNOSED IN JANUARY 2020, HE BECAME MORE SERIOUS ABOUT HIS FAITH. ON HIS PROGRAM SEVERAL WEEKS AGO HE SPOKE OPENLY ABOUT HIS FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. IT WAS THRILLING TO HEAR.

SCRIPTURE SAYS IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH THAT JESUS IS LORD AND BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART GOD HAS RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD YOU WILL BE SAVED. BY HIS OWN TESTIMONY RUSH BELIEVED THAT AND BECAUSE OF GOD’S PROMISES HE IS IN THE PRESENCE OF HIS SAVIOR.

I LIKED WHAT BRET BAIER SAID ON FOX NEWS: “THE MAN SAID HIS TALENT WAS ON LOAN FROM GOD; NOW GOD HAS HIS TALENT BACK.” BLESS YOU RUSH. YOU BLESSED US. I’M CAL THOMAS.

Lovely, lovely words, Mr. Thomas, about Rush. I loved “Not the Man on Air” in today’s paper and the post above. I am Rush’s age (born 1951), and I could relate to his on-the-air memories of the years in which we grew up. I especially enjoyed this little bit I had in common with him. He was a wonderful man in so many ways, and I am terribly sad he’s gone from us here on earth, but I know he’s in an even better place now with our Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you for your kind words. Betsy Jones
