COPS UNDER SIEGE

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 14, 2021

ACROSS AMERICA, POLICE OFFICERS ARE QUITTING. CAN YOU BLAME THEM? THE MINISCULE NUMBER WHO BEHAVE BADLY HAS BEEN USED TO SMEAR AND RESTRICT OFFICERS IN THEIR OFTEN DANGEROUS WORK.

NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THE KILLING OF POLICE BY ARMED THUGS. IN NEW MEXICO, AN OFFICER MAKING A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP WAS MURDERED. HE WAS THE FATHER OF THREE WITH ANOTHER ON THE WAY. ON LONG ISLAND A COP WAS STABBED. WHEN A SUSPECT RESISTS ARREST, AS WAS THE CASE IN MINNESOTA WITH DUANTE WRIGHT, THE JUDGMENT IS THE COP WAS WRONG AND THE VICTIM INNOCENT.

A SURVEY OF NEWS STORIES INDICATES THAT IN AMERICA’S 50 LARGEST CITIES, AT LEAST 23 HAVE SEEN POLICE CHIEFS OR LINE OFFICERS RESIGN, RETIRE, OR TAKE DISABILITY THIS YEAR ALONE. NEARLY 3,700 BEAT COPS HAVE LEFT, A LARGE PERCENTAGE FROM THE NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT. THERE ARE ALSO MAJOR DECLINES IN THE NUMBER OF POLICE IN CHICAGO, MINNEAPOLIS, MILWAUKEE AND ATLANTA.

THE MAJOR POLICE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION TOLD THE WALL STREET JOURNAL 18 OF ITS 69 MEMBER EXECUTIVES HAD RETIRED.

THIS IS A SERIOUS PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE, BUT THE LEFT DOESN’T CARE. I’M CAL THOMAS

I agree with you. Police officers have a thankless job in todays society. People just do not respect them. If the people would comply with them a lot of these police shootings would have never happened.
