Taxing Taxes

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 15, 2021

TOMORROW WOULD NORMALLY BE THE DAY WE HAVE TO SETTLE WHAT WE OWE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, OR TO BE PRECISE, WHAT THEY SAY WE OWE BECAUSE IT KEEPS CHANGING. THE IRS HAS EXTENDED THE DEADLINE UNTIL MAY 17 BECAUSE OF COVID.

MY TAX RETURN, FILED JOINTLY WITH MY WIFE, IS FIFTY-SEVEN PAGES LONG. SHE OWNS A RESTAURANT AND SO HERS IS A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED THAN MINE, BUT 57 PAGES? AS JOE BIDEN MIGHT SAY, “COME ON MAN.”

THE INSTRUCTIONS AND ALL THE FORMS SEEM TO BE WRITTEN IN A LANGUAGE ONLY THE COMPUTERS AND CPA’S UNDERSTAND. NO AMERICAN SHOULD BE PUT THROUGH THIS TORTURE EVERY YEAR.

BESIDES, WHAT WE EARN AND GIVE TO THE GOVERNMENT IS A PITTANCE COMPARED TO WHAT THEY BORROW AND SPEND. CITIZENS AGAINST GOVERNMENT WASTE IS ABOUT TO RELEASE ITS ANNUAL “PIG BOOK.” WHICH CATALOGUES SOME OF GOVERNMENT’S WASTEFUL SPENDING. BUT WHAT THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PROPOSES THROUGH IT’S MISNAMED “INFRASTRUCTURE BILL” WILL LOCK US IN DEBT, POSSIBLY FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.

THEY DON’T SEEM TO CARE. THEIR ATTITUDE SEEMS TO BE “LET THE DEVIL TAKE TOMORROW; HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT.” I’M CAL THOMAS.
