D-DAY PLUS 80

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JUNE 5, 2024

TOMORROW IS THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY. THE INVASION OF SOUTHERN FRANCE WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE NAZI REGIME OF ADOLPH HITLER.

PREVIOUS OBSERVANCES HAVE NOTED THE BRAVERY OF THE MEN WHO CLIMBED THE STEEP WALL AT POINTE DU HOC, THE STORMING OF OMAHA BEACH AND THE OTHER BEACHES, THE LETTER FROM GENERAL DWIGHT EISENHOWER TAKING FULL RESPONSIBILITY IF THE INVASION FAILED.

THIS WILL LIKELY BE THE LAST OBSERVANCE OF D-DAY AT WHICH ANY OF THE SURVIVORS ARE ABLE TO ATTEND. I OFTEN WONDER, GIVEN WHAT AMERICA HAS BECOME, IF SO MANY WOULD HAVE SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES HAD THEY KNOWN WHAT THEIR COUNTRY WOULD BECOME? THEY PROBABLY WOULD BECAUSE THEY REVERED DUTY, HONOR AND COUNTRY.

WE DON’T HONOR, EXCEPT ON MEMORIAL DAY, WHAT IT TOOK FOR SO MANY TO DO SO MUCH IN ORDER TO LIBERATE A CONTINENT FROM OPPRESSION. THE OLD VALUES THAT MADE AND SUSTAINED AMERICA THROUGH SO MANY CHALLENGES ARE NOT TAUGHT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS OR REINFORCED IN CULTURE. OUR MODERN ENEMIES SEE THIS AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO AGGRESSIVELY PURSUE AGENDAS THAT DICTATORS OF THE PAST PURSUED.

ONE OF MY UNCLES WAS AT OMAHA BEACH. HE WAS SLIGHTLY WOUNDED BUT LED HIS MEN TO VICTORY. I SHALL ALWAYS BE PROUD OF HIM. I’M CAL THOMAS.

Thank you so much for these thoughts related to D-Day, Mr. Thomas, Cal even! Oh, that teachers would get back to teaching things that really matter!

Unfortunately, once again, the person or people who transcribed your transcript, Mr. Thomas, used the verb spelled “lead” to mean the past tense of “lead.” Please inform them, for how little it may be worth, that the past tense of the verb “lead” is “led,” not “lead.” You can also tell him/them for me that I have seen this same mistake in other writings by different authors, so they should not feel too awfully bad.

    Sincerely,
one who recognizes that languages change, English as well, but that we needn’t make unnecessary and/or unwise changes
