LOWERING STANDARDS IN NJ

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 8, 2025

THE WASHINGTON POST INTERVIEWED TEN FORMER AND CURRENT JOURNALISM PROFESSIONALS. AS YOU MIGHT EXPECT, ALL BUT ONE ARE KNOWN LIBERALS.

TWO DELIVERED COMMENTS THAT GOT MY ATTENTION. KEVIN MERIDA, FORMER EXECUTIVE EDITOR AT THE LOS ANGELES TIMES, TOLD THE POST: “THERE IS NOT A SINGULAR MEDIA.” MAYBE NOT, BUT THEY MOSTLY APPROACH THINGS FROM A SECULAR PROGRESSIVE WORLDVIEW, WHICH IS THE SAME THING. MERIDA ALSO ASKED: “WHAT DO CONSUMERS OF JOURNALISM WANT AND EXPECT FROM US?” HOW ABOUT FAIRNESS? HE ADDED: “WE NEED TO GET A BETTER HANDLE ON OUR COUNTRY. OUR UNDERSTANDING OF OUR FELLOW CITIZENS IS NOT SOPHISTICATED ENOUGH. WE NEED TO BE REPORTORIALLY ENTRENCHED IN OUR COMMUNITIES, INCLUDING TALKING TO PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MEDIA…” TRY GOING TO GOSPEL PREACHING CHURCHES FOR STARTERS.

DAVID REMNICK, FORMER EDITOR OF THE NEW YORKER SAID: “WOULD WE BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION IF DEMOCRATS HAD WON A NARROW VICTORY?” THE ANSWER IS NO.

POLLING BY GALLUP SHOWS TRUST IN THE MEDIA AT AN ALL-TIME LOW. TOO MANY TODAY ARE NOT JOURNALISTS, BUT ACTIVISTS FOR THE DEMOCRAT PARTY. IF YOU READ THE WASHINGTON POST AND THEN THE WASHINGTON TIMES, YOU SEE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORLDVIEWS. THAT MAKES MY POINT. I’M CAL THOMAS.
