CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 28, 2025
When President Trump threatened to slap tariffs on Columbia if President Gustavo Petro would not accept criminal migrants he wants to deport he did not get the initial response he hoped for. Instead of immediately caving to Trump, Petro issued a firey statement in which he called the U.S. president a “white slaver” who is trying to “wipe out the human race.”
THE PRESIDENT HAD THREATENED TO IMPOSE A TARIFF OF TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT ON COLUMBIA IN THE FIRST WEEK IF IT REFUSES TO TAKE BACK THE CRIMINAL MIGRANTS AND FIFTY PERCENT AFTER THAT IF THEY DIDN’T BEND. PETRO QUICKLY CAVED UNDER PRESSURE.
AS EXPECTED, SOME OTHER COUNTRIES ARE REFUSING TO TAKE THEM BACK. BRAZIL’S FOREIGN MINISTER CLAIMS MORE THAN 80 BRAZILIANS ON A FLIGHT TO HIS COUNTRY WERE TREATED HARSHLY AND THEIR RIGHTS VIOLATED. WHAT RIGHTS? DOES HE THINK THIS IS CLUB MED?
MEXICO, WHICH ALLOWED TOO MANY ILLEGALS TO ENTER THE U.S., IS ALSO REFUSING TO ALLOW THEIR RETURN.WILL THIS BE THE START OF MIGRANT WARS? A LOT DEPENDS ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH COLUMBIA.
I’M CAL THOMAS.
