CAN WE GO ANY LOWER IN OUR POLITICS? PROBABLY

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JUNE 2, 2026

THE LATEST, BUT PROBABLY NOT THE LAST CHAPTER IN THIS CRAZY POLITICAL SEASON INVOLVES A CANDIDATE FOR THE U.S. SENATE IN MAINE.

GRAHAM PLATNER, WHO CLAIMS HE DIDN’T KNOW A TATOO HE HAD DRAWN ON HIS CHEST SOME YEARS AGO SYMBOLIZIS THE NAZIS, HAS NOW BEEN CAUGHT SENDING INAPPROPRIATE SEXUAL MESSAGES TO A NUMBER OF WOMEN NOT HIS WIFE. IN FACT, HIS WIFE IS DEFENDING HIM, SAYING THE GOSSIP MUST END AND THAT MAINE VOTERS SHOULD FOCUS ON THE REAL ISSUES. HER STATEMENT WAS SALTED WITH THE CRUDE WORDS WE HAVE COME TO EXPECT IN TOO MUCH OF TODAY’S POLITICS.

THE NEW YORK TIMES REPORTED THAT PLATNER HAD ENGAGED IN SEXTING WITH MULTIPLE WOMEN. THE PLATNER CAMP SAID THE NUMBER WAS LESS THAN MULTIPLE, AS IF THIS EXONERATES HIM.

PLATNER IS AN ANTI-ISRAEL SOCIALIST. AOC AND BERNIE SANDERS HAVE BEEN CAMPAIGNING FOR HIM, WHICH TELLS YOU MUCH OF WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. DEMOCRATS SEE HIM AS KEY TO WINNINGN A SENATE MAJORITY.

INCUMBENT SUSAN COLLINS IS NO GEM, BUT GIVEN THE ALTERNATIVE, COLLINS IS JOAN OF ARC COMPARED TO PLANTER’S JOSEPH GOEBBELS.

AS FAR AS SACNDALS GO, THERE AREN’T MANY THESE DAYS BECAUSE ALL STADARDS HAVE BEEN REMOVED. I’M CAL THOMAS.

Can we go any lower? How about a President who was found in a court of law to have sexually abused a woman? Or allegations which the FBU considered credible that a teenager was sexually assaulted years ago by the one who is now President? Ot that the President used to be a close associate of the notorious pedophile Epstein? Strange you never use the cliche “Birds of a feather. flock together”ig you have ever mentioned the President and Epstein together. And where is criticism of the adultery of Paxton in Texas? The casual reader must come to the conclusion that Democrats engage in wrongdoing and must be condemned, but when it comes to Republicans once must look the other way and keep quiet out of a sense of decorum and party unity.

I have touched on all those subjects you mentioned either on radio or in my column. Deplorable behavior is not confined to one party or person
