CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY DECEMBER 25, 2020
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT CHRISTMASES PAST? UNLESS YOU RECEIVED A LARGE GIFT – A CAR, PERHAPS – I’M BETTING YOU PROBABLY DON’T REMEMBER THE STUFF YOU WERE GIVEN.
THE ONLY MEMORY OF A GIFT I HAVE IS THE LIONEL TRAIN MY PARENTS GAVE ME AS A CHILD. FOR YEARS IT RAN AROUND OUR CHRISTMAS TREE UNTIL IT WAS LOST YEARS LATER IN A MOVE.
AFTER BECOMING A BELIEVER I REMEMBER MIDNIGHT CHURCH SERVICES WITH THE LIGHTS OFF AND CANDLES LIT, SINGING “SILENT NIGHT.” IT ALMOST ALWAYS BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES BECAUSE WHAT I WAS WORSHIPPING – AND WORSHIP STILL – WAS NOT A DAY ON THE CALENDER, BUT THE LORD OF GLORY, WHO CAME INTO THIS WORLD TO SAVE SINNERS, SUCH AS I.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAT MADE – AND STILL MAKES – IN MY LIFE. I’VE SHARED THIS LYRIC ON CHRISTMASES PAST BUT IT IS SO PROFOUND I WILL SHARE IT AGAIN: “CHRISTMAS ISN’T CHRISTMAS ‘TIL IT HAPPENS IN YOUR HEART. SOMEWHERE DEEP INSIDE YOU IS WHERE CHRISTMAS REALLY STARTS. SO GIVE YOUR HEART TO JESUS, YOU’LL DISCOVER WHEN YOU DO, THAT IT’S CHRISTMAS, REALLY CHRISTMAS FOR YOU.
I’M CAL THOMAS.
